A 28 Highway Improvements, Ashford

Datum Groundworks delivered a Section 278 highway improvement scheme providing access to a new Aldi store in Ashford, Kent.

Scope of Works

The works covered the A28 Canterbury Road between the M20 motorway bridge and Bybrook Road and included:

  • Full carriageway reconstruction
  • New and modified traffic islands
  • Drainage and utility ducting upgrades
  • Widened footways and new cycle facilities
  • High-friction surfacing
  • Replacement traffic signals and SCOOT detection loops
  • New road markings, bus stop improvements and stainless-steel road studs
  • New road markings, hatching, bus stop improvements and installation of stainless-steel road studs.

Working Around Live Traffic

The A28 remained open 24 hours a day throughout the programme except for a planned closure during surfacing works. Careful phasing and night work allowed the scheme to progress safely while minimising disruption to residents, businesses, and road users.

Outcome

The completed scheme provides safe access to the new store while improving the wider highway network for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

The project demonstrates Datum’s ability to deliver complex highway works safely, efficiently and around live traffic.
